School’s out and traditionally we hit the road, which as exhilarating as it may sound involves a lot of planning and prep work. I have shared our adventures on the road last summer in a detailed blog post, which made me relive old memories and kind of warmed my soul when I read it last night. The most overwhelming challenge for me as usual is how to reconcile the variety of settings, occasions, weather conditions, activities and God knows what other unexpected items on our intensive agenda. 😱
My intention is to keep it cool and not stress out this time around because as you know experience is king. I’ve done it before, I can do it again! You might remember all the complexities such a trip entails so I decide to assign the perplexing task of styling my outfits to La Koketa app. My strategy is to pack different types of clothing for travelling, biking, mountain hikes, hot days on the beach, city strolls, fine dining and then just mix and match them on La Koketa App.
So let’s see how much fun this could be! 😎
1. Dolomites, Italy
Our first stop is the Dolomites mountains in northeastern Italy, whose rocky peaks are breath-takingly beautiful with green meadows lodged between the rocks, glacier streams and dizzying cliffs for experience climbers. Just the perfect backdrop for hiking, climbing and cycling in the summer! Here, the high-altitude temperatures and the sport activities call for hoodies and leggings, which naturally reign all outfit choices. 🧗♀️🚵♀️
I know you would say it’s easy to grab for whatever, but my fashion-conscious soul caves for color coordination, the perfect pattern match, layering and the right shoes. You know the right outfit can make a big difference!
I used two features on La Koketa App to build my outfits:
✅ the first one “Create Outfit” lets me mix and match my pieces on a canvas so I can eventually decide on a look when I’m out of ideas
✅ the second one “What to Wear” shows me styling suggestions with a selected piece that I feel like wearing, but don’t know how to style
Here, I played around with different pieces in my closet to decide to something cool, coordinated and weather appropriate.
2. Cortina D’ampetzzo, Italy
Cortina is one of my favorite places for skiing, hiking and city strolls. Absolutely magnificent for all seasons! Its stunning nature and spectacular views combined with its aristocratic feel and fancy venues makes it my ultimate go-to destination. Surrounded by the most celebrated peaks, Cortina initially attracted the most elite alpinists and later developed into a skiing destination following the Winter Olympics.
The place is so multi-faceted that you can either hit the extensive network of mountain trails to avoid the touristic crowds or join the shopping frenzy along the main street Corso Italia. Needless to say, I happen to love the shopping and the fine dining the town has to offer as much as the spectacular nature. 😍 This of course is an occasion to shred my mountain look and slip into something fancier considering the chillier evening weather. 👗
Here, I decided on a denim dress and let La Koketa App do the styling by adding it as a preferred item in the “What to Wear” feature and then chose the outfit with the best layering options and the comfiest shoes. 👟
Another way to go is to have fun and experiment by mixing and matching your clothes in the “Create Outfit” feature on La Koketa App.
3. Venice, Italy
Ah, Venice! What can I say? I just love coming over and over and it’s like a magnet, be it for a winter visit or a summer layover. It’s a city you are bound to fall in love with! ❤ Somehow, I’m not disturbed by the touristic chaos and manage to enjoy its charm, artistic air, architectural beauties, environmental uniqueness and all the logistic peculiarities associated with it being built on water.
Having endured hoodies for a while, I opt for the most glam dress stuffed in the camper because this is Venice after all. It took me some time to figure the styling, but I had fun mixing and matching the shoes and the bag in the “Create Outfit” feature on La Koketa App and eventually decided on the white palette with a bit of a floral accent.
3. Zadar, Croatia
This is Croatia at its best! I’ve actually shared my impressions about this mesmerizing town before, which is basically a city fortress with remarkable walls, narrow limestone streets and the most captivating sunsets recognized and admired even by the famous filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock. 🌅
The campsite in Zadar also is a world-class with a sunset view over the sea and a biking distance away from the old town. I’ve told you before about the art installations on the seafront and the beautiful sunset promenade, which happened to be under construction this time.
I chose to wear a floral mini dress because as Coco Channel used to say, “Everyday is a fashion show and the world is a runway” worthy of your appearance and grace especially with such stunning sunsets as the backdrop.
The styling was as effortless as a charm! First, I just swiped for shoes and accessories that math the dress, but then decided to add it in the “What to Wear?” feature for more styling ideas. As you can image though, sneakers are my go-to choice there days on the road. 😁
Sadly, the touristic crowds have invaded the city and paraded along the narrow streets in tight rows along the tiny shops and numerous bars and restaurants with tables by the ancient walls. Somehow the scale of Zadar made the tourist influx manageable and didn’t sour our experience. We still managed to find nice restaurants with gourmet seafood cuisine and enjoyed the sightseeing and the dining experience.
Here, my strategy was to choose a piece that I’d like to wear (floral corset top in this case) and then mix and match it with my clothes and accessories to check how to style it or just ask La Koketa App what to wear by tapping the respective button. 😍
4. Split, Croatia
Another Croatian gem lost to touristic frenzy… Located on the Dalmatian coast with preserved medieval relics, ancient architecture, vibrant port, and Adriatic cuisine. To be honest, I had great expectations, which were swiftly slayed by the influx from tourists coming from cruise ships, ferries, flights, roads, you name it.
I suppose the second biggest city in Croatia would have offered a different experience, had we visited off-season. However, we hardly enjoyed the Old Town known as Diocletian’s Palace dating from the Roman era and encompassing a huge complex of venerable buildings, gateways, courtyards and defensive walls. The touristic throngs marching along the narrow streets and the seafront promenade buying boat tours, eating ice cream and dining all over the place created a thick air of busyness and suffocation. 😱
Split on the other hand is the gateway to the some of the most sun-kissed islands in the Adriatic with see-through waters and pine-fringed shorelines. We did a boat trip to a beautiful archipelago called the Blue Lagoon, which was so overcrowded with boats that it was hardly swimmable and then to the historic town Torgir, which was picture prefect with well-preserved fortress and ancient buildings. It was worth the views, but too touristic for my taste. 🤔
I didn’t miss the opportunity to dress up though and chose floral dresses both evenings to be in sync with the Adriatic landscape and the spectacular sunsets.
I played again with the mix and match feature to figure how to style the dresses targeting something glam, but easy to wear and comfy for city strolls and hot weather. 🌞 Eventually, I decided on flat sandals of course because the hunt for the perfect diner turned to be a mirage as rightfully expected.
So that’s about how our trip began and started to develop by the day… I hope I’ll gradually embrace the road life and its intricacies in terms of organization and outfit choices.
So what do you think? Have I managed to save the trip with activity-ready and city-style looks?
We have one more month to go on the road and I’ll follow up with the next destinations on our agenda to keep you posted on our road trip adventures and my outfit choices. Of course facilitated by La Koketa App! 💕
To be continued…
