With clothes that you already have in your closet
Ah, Halloween is around the corner and the excitement about costume ideas is both contagious and tangible despite the ongoing health crisis and the worldwide restrictions on public festivities. 🎃👻
Again, this year we are determined to celebrate because we want to feel festive and we want to experience the thrill of anticipating a night full fright, fun and delights. Besides, dressing up always brings out your creativity and gives you a permission to feel and act like someone extraordinary that reflects your inner personality.
The current costume trends bravely embrace the top pop culture moments of the past year, so I decided to source inspiration and play around with popular themes from recognizable movies, music and events. Every now and then, I get a craving to do something timely and at the same time easily achievable, meaning available in my closet.
Here’s how I went about preparing my costumes:
✅ Researched 2021’s most memorable moments destined to inspire the best Halloween costumes
✅ Shortlisted the ones I consider doable without too much effort, e.g. investing in new stuff
✅ Checked my inventory in my digital closet on La Koketa app
✅ Dug out the box with last year’s Halloween accessories
The first trend that caught my eye was Olivia Rodrigo’s teen queen outfit from her viral “Good 4 U” music video. Instantly I knew I could borrow my daughter’s blue-colored cheerleading uniform and DIY the long latex gloves with black stockings. The only problem that I encountered was the missing stickers box that was nowhere to be found so my daughter suggested the Snap filters instead. 😁
The second costume trend was also very obvious and required no effort at all. As a big fan of the Gossip Girl OG series, the hotly anticipated reboot show offered a tremendous opportunity as a fab Halloween costume idea. Yup, you can never go wrong with a fashion-forward spin on a school uniform!
As you know tennis skirts, oversized button-downs, knee-high boots, V-neck collage sweaters are staples so I easily found them all in my digital closet on La Koketa app after searching with the respective hashtag. Then I just added a loose tie (borrowed from my hubby) and a vibrant top handle bag to complete the look and voila!
I sourced my third and final idea (lucky three) from the most practical approach that I covered last year on our blog, i.e. just Halloweenify your black and orange outfits with spooky accessories and make-up! 🕸🕷 Simple as that! I just filtered my black dresses, chose a leather mini and tapped the “What to Wear” feature on La Koketa app.
The combo with OTK boots was just on point so I added a veiled fascinator hat and black feather wings that happened to reside in my Halloween accessories’ box.
To wrap it up – you can always recreate trends with what you already own! Just do a little research, review your digital inventory on the palm of your hand and then use your imagination and the outfit-building algorithm of La Koketa app to top it off.
So which one would you choose 1️⃣,2️⃣ or 3️⃣?
As for me, I’d definitely go for the third look because it channels my inner personality! I’d feel really gorgeous and ready to enjoy the spooky season in style. ☠💀
