And just like that we eased into the New Year and settled comfortably into the everyday. Now that our enthusiasm and eagerness to plan, hope and set ambitious goals is muffled by the stream of our routine, we are again motivated to feel and look our best on every possible social occasion that comes our way.
But where do we start with our closets’ refresh? What I did first was to check the trends and then rummage my wardrobe for pieces that can achieve the current blend of nostalgic looks and elevated basics.
I noticed that the sweater vest is one fashion item that is destined for a grand reappearance this year. This trend definitely picked my interest because the sweater vest is really easy to wear and at the same time it is super versatile for styling different looks (and most probably found in everyone’s closet).
Now these sleeveless knits are usually associated with the clothes you’d picture on Ivy League coeds. However, they have become a modern classic ever since the Clueless icon Cher rocked them in many of her looks and then again reintroduced in an elevated version in the Gossip Girl reboot.
I used to love wearing sweater vests back in the days and I certainly owned half a dozen. Their appeal is surely attributed to the soft knit fabric that has become top-ranked during the pandemic because of its glam leisure that combines comfort with style.
My favorite way to rock this look is with a cozy fabric in a fun print coupled with a crisp white button-down shirt underneath it. In the first look I chose an oversized vest and paired it with leather pants and chunky knee-high boots, while in the second I chose another 2022 trend—a pleated skirt. This famous fold is so stylish, and I just love wider pleats on shorter pieces in pastel hues that are matching the sweater print in this case. Pair your pleats with sneakers or flat boots for everyday, and heels for a dressy evening look.
